Road To Minimalism: Decluttering Clothes
On my journey to minimalism I only want to have what I love and get use out of. When it comes to minimalism and clothing some people can find it daunting but it really isn't that hard if you break it down.
1. What is your style?
I personally like things to be functional, cute, and comfortable. I like athleisure, so it can double as something to wear to the gym or just give that type of vibe. I mostly like the fit of my clothes to be one piece tight and the other more loose. Like a fitted shirt and more loose sweatpants or a loose sweatshirt and fitted highwaist leggings or pants.
2. What I got rid of:
I gave away ill fitting clothes that were too baggy on me. I gave away clothes that I never wore because it didn't fit my lifestyle. I gave away clothes that were colors that didn't go with my theme/vibe. And of course I threw away clothes with holes or irreversibly stains or discoloration.
3. What I kept
I kept clothes that were blue, black, grey, mauve, and olive green. I kept my cropped hoodies, t shirts, highwaist pants, workout gear, and functional outerwear.
4. What I learned
I learned that not every cute item looks good on my body shape. Even if something does look good on me, I may never wear it because I don't like a life that is accustomed to those types of clothes. I also learned that it is better to have clothes that go together than have one really nice piece that I couldn't make an outfit with the clothes that I already have.
Conclusion
Putting thought into the items you wear really makes a difference in improving your style. And knowing exactly what you have helps you know what you should and shouldn't buy. Also having a clear idea of what your style is helps when making outfits and buying clothes. But most of all having clothes that you love and are tailored to you and your style is better than having a shmorgishborg of random clothing.
