Making a Modern/ Baddie Capsule Wardrobe
There are a couple of reasons to choose to have/make a capsule wardrobe. Some do it because they want to feel like they can just grab anything and make an outfit. Others do it to combat fast fashion's textile waste problem. I'm doing it for a little of both reasons.
I like to be able to choose outfits easily and I don't like having a bunch of unnecessary articles of clothing. i am a minimalist so any degree of clutter makes me uneasy and unfortunately, I tend to be messy by nature. So, a capsule wardrobe will keep me from buying a bunch of pieces just to match other pieces. It will allow me to see what I'm buying and to make sure the pieces are interchangeable.
My style is more of the "Baddie" aesthetic and when I look up capsule wardrobes all I find the same type of style. So, this can also serve as inspo for people with my taste/ style of clothing.
Personally, I work in a particular uniform that will not be included in this because I don't do meetings in formal attire, and I rarely go into work without being in uniform.
The first part of making a capsule wardrobe is first planning. I like to decide on my color pallet. Thinking about complementary colors as well as colors that flatter your skin tone and work weel together.
Next, I think about my day-to-day habits and what clothes I will need for those activities. For example, workout clothes or clothes that you wear to get messy for painting and crafting. You should also think about the weather and hope that will change throughout the year.
Also important is your sense of style! Creating a wardrobe with ONLY clothes that match your style and are truly complementary to your body shape is what determines if this is actually effective to its purpose. The pieces should be interchangeable with each other to make cohesive outfits.
You should always get some basics. For different styles that can look different. With my "baddie" type of style my tops are bodysuits, a few graphic tees, and form fitting t-shirts. Bottoms are high waisted jeans in different colors and joggers (I rarely wear skirts). And outerwear would be either bomber or fluffy jackets/coats.
Also, functional clothing that are color cohesive help with making them interchangeable. My functional clothing are workout clothes and for you they may be job related but I wear a uniform to I exclude that aspect entirely. So, I get either sets (tops with bottoms) or packs of items (like a pack of sports bras).
Lastly, add a few statement pieces that you won't get tired of. Most people do that with accessories but you might have a certain dress or blouse to be a statement piece.
Personally, I don't have all of these pieces, but I am working toward this capsule wardrobe. I will be gradually buying and switching out pieces. I will definitely do more on this topic as I learn and create more idea boards.
I hope this helped you in anyway.
Stay hydrated!
